The indecent assault and battery charges against Kevin Spacey have been dropped.
It has been one of the most high-profile cases brought up amid the #MeToo uproar. The actor was accused of groping an 18-year-old man at a bar three years ago.
According to BBC, prosecutors in Massachusetts dropped the case after the accuser invoked his Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination and refused to testify about his missing phone. The site wrote, “Mr. Spacey’s lawyers had accused the man of deleting text messages, which the defence said could prove the actor’s innocence.”
BBC stressed, “The announcement comes after the accuser earlier this month announced that he was dropping a civil case against the actor.”
It’s important to note that this isn’t the only sexual misconduct allegation against the actor. However, it’s the only one which escalated to a criminal case.
The accuser’s lawyer, Mitchell Garabedian, said in a statement that his client had “shown an enormous amount of courage under difficult circumstances.”
