Best of: These moments got us so emotional in the best and worst ways

Welcome to another series of stories on Preen.ph called “Best of.” Every last day of the month we will be breaking down the best of, well, anything. These will cover different categories like culture and fashion. We will get into specifics like best new liquid lipsticks or restaurants for lunch breaks. July is, without a doubt, an emotional month for a lot of people, mostly because it’s Cancer season during the first three weeks. According to The Cut, water signs are usually intuitive, perceptive, and sensitive.

This year, it’s especially jarring because Mercury was in retrograde for the whole month and there were two eclipses. These astronomical events caused fluctuating emotions, miscommunications, and giving us a hard time to keep up with drastic changes.

Emotions were at an all-time high for everyone in the world . Have you seen the news lately? It’s like there’s some sort of drama every week. If that’s not peak Cancer season or Mercury in retrograde at work, we don’t know what it is.

For this edition of “Best of,” we are rounding up the some of the popular news that made people feel so many things—from happiness and love to sadness and anger—this month.

Taylor Swift vs Scooter Braun

Earlier this month, Taylor Swift posted a Tumblr blog where she opened up about Scooter Braun acquiring her former music label, Big Machine Records and her whole music catalog, from her debut album to Reputation. It’s unfortunate because it would mean she won’t have access or the full rights to her own music, especially since she wrote most (if not all) of them.

At the same time, Taylor accused Scooter of sabotaging her multiple times. One instance was the feud between Taylor and the Wests. She also called out Justin Bieber for allegedly being part of the mess because of his “what up” post in 2016.

The whole Taylor-Scooter drama garnered massive reactions from their friends and supporters. Let’s just say that multiple arguments and Twitter threads were posted online regarding the matter. (eg. Todrick Hall and Demi Lovato’s exchange)

Baby news!

Who doesn’t like hearing baby news? This July, both Georgina Wilson and Andi Eigenmann gave birth to their second kids. Meanwhile, baby Archie of Sussex and baby Ziggy Dantes were also baptized. It’s safe to say that people’s hearts melted when they saw these tots.

#MeToo updates

We have some good news and bad news.

Good news: Billionaire financier Jeffrey Epstein was arrested earlier this month and was charged with sex trafficking. This came more than a decade after he was accused of molesting minors. If found guilty, he could potentially spend 45 years in prison for one count of sex trafficking of minors and one count of conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking of minors.

Bad news: The charges against Kevin Spacey, who was accused of sexually assaulting multiple men, were dropped. Prosecutor reportedly did so after the accuser, an 18-year-old man who was Kevin allegedly groped at a bar in 2016, invoked his Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination and refused to testify about his missing phone. Because of that, the actor is currently walking free. But we won’t expect him to make a showbiz comeback anytime soon.

Both news are infuriating for different reasons. Bottomline: We hope justice will be served to give the victims peace of mind.

#NoToDoctorShaming, Yeng Constantino

Singer Yeng Constantino drew flak after ranting about a doctor in Siargao on her vlog, and even posted her name and photo on Facebook. This came after her husband, Yan Asuncion, got into an accident. She claimed that the doctor lacked concern and in other post, told Cong. Bingo Matugas to train the medical personnel better so they can give better service.

Netizens, especially those in the medical field, weren’t happy with Yeng’s behavior and criticized her using hashtag “#NoToDoctorShaming.” They also called on to her to take down her posts and apologize publicly humiliating the doctor and for saying harsh things to a provincial hospital.

A few days later, Yeng came around and took down her posts, including her Siargao vlog. She said in a Facebook post, “Yung mga recent posts ko was brought about my high emotions dahil sa nangyari sa aking asawa whose life at the time I thought was in grave danger.” (My recent posts were brought about my high emotions because of what happened to my husband, whose life at the time, I thought, was in grave danger.)

She also apologized to the doctor and the medical staff for the hurt and distress she caused them. “Whatever concerns I had should have been coursed through the proper forum. It was unfair to call her our on social media,” she said.

Well, at least she learned her lesson. Let this be a reminder to everyone as well to be mindful about calling out people and to not be insensitive about the situation of rural communities and the services they offer.

Relationship news

Bustle noted that Cancer season 2019 meant dealing with high emotions and letting go of certain relationships. Well, we got that and more thanks to these celebrity news.

First up, we have fans swooning over Tom Holland’s alleged new relationship. He was recently spotted hanging out with a mystery woman. Meanwhile, some were shocked because they thought Tom was still dating his Spider-Man co-star, Zendaya.

The next relationship news that made waves was the alleged cheating scandal involving Julia Barretto, Joshua Garcia, Bea Alonzo, and Gerald Anderson. If you haven’t kept up with the fiasco online, you can read our timeline.

Why is our government like this?

We had a lot to say about our government officials this month. Sen. Tito Sotto said abortion is just as heinous as extrajudicial killings. Sen. Kiko Pimentel is also against another human right, which is absolute divorce. He said he’ll only approve of it if it was called “dissolution of marriage,” which is basically the same thing.

The biggest headache of them all was Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s SONA this year. It was an hour and 34 minutes of him giving promises and going off-script to threaten to kill officials who aren’t doing their jobs right. He also brought up the reinstating of the death penalty and snuck in some misogynistic comments too.

If these government news don’t make you angry, then you’re probably not paying close attention to what’s happening in our country.
