Is it finally time to retire millennial pink? It seems like yellow is taking over the color trend throne this season. And of course, it has a catchy name too: “Gen Z yellow.”
First, let’s look into why this color is associated with Generation Z. According to Forbes, these are the people who are born in the late 1990s. They are also known as “post-millennials.”
So how does the color yellow come into play here? Color expert Erika Woelfel told Hello Giggles that it symbolizes “vitality and ambition, traits we’re seeing in this upcoming generation of tastemakers.” It also gives the impression of “glowing up” since most Gen Z-ers are turning into young adults and professionals.
Another interpretation of the color is that it brings positivity to any space and/or style. It’s a similar theme to Pantone color of the year Ultra Violet, which gives an optimistic message amid turbulent times.
Gen Z yellow is considered a gold-meets-mustard color, a good complement to any skin tone. Ellealso called it “egg yolk” yellow, which was seen on the SS18 runways of Carolina Herrera, Derek Lam, and Christian Siriano.
