There are reports that Interview is shutting down. The magazine, which was founded by Andy Warhol, was known for its coverage of film, fashion, and art. Although there’s no formal announcement yet, some of its former staff have been tweeting about it. That said, there have been theories on what might’ve led Interview to fold.
Fashionista cited that there have been several departures from the magazine. Former EIC Keith Pollock left in 2016 to take an executive director position for Architectural Digest’s digital platform. Former senior fashion and accessories editor Julia Gall also left to become accessories director of Marie Claire.
There were also reports that Interview’s owner, Peter Brant, is facing a multimillion-dollar lawsuit because he allegedly fired former senior executive Deborah Blasucci for “making too much money.” Additionally, Peter drew flak again when he didn’t pay rent for their Soho-based office, which locked out the magazine staff.
More lawsuits emerged when former editorial director Fabien Baron and stylist Karl Templer sued Interview for $60,000 due to unpaid invoices from 2015 to 2018. If you haven’t noticed yet, the magazine sure has a lot of debts and lawsuits to pay for. Was it an inevitable end for Interview? Maybe.
As of writing, Interview was still active on Instagram yesterday as they had Billboard Music Awards takeover. But so far, there’s still no statement from the magazine. We’ll update this if anything comes up.
